YMCA of Greenville Renovates Simpsonville Location With $10.7 Million in JEDA Bonds

Simpsonville, SC — Greenville County

The South Carolina Jobs-Economic Development Authority (JEDA) issued $10,690,000 in Economic Development Revenue Bonds for the YMCA of Greenville to finance the expansion of the Prisma Health Family YMCA campus in Simpsonville.

The YMCA broke ground on March 11, 2025, for the Simpsonville expansion, which will add 14,500 square feet to the 80,000-square-foot facility located at 550 Brookwood Place in the fast-growing Greenville County suburb. Additions will include an outdoor swimming pool with cover, new gymnasium, child watch area and new space for afterschool and summer day camp programs.

“We bought this property in 2012 and 2013 with long-term expansion plans in mind. Tax-exempt bond financing through JEDA is helping to make this strategy and our dreams a reality.”

Barbie Jefferson, Executive Vice President and COO/CFO of the YMCA of Greenville

“We’re pleased to be able to help the YMCA of Greenville through the complex bond financing process as the organization consolidates its Simpsonville offerings and services into one location,” said Kathy McKinney, Bond Counsel with Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., in Greenville.

“Supporting community projects like this is one of the reasons why JEDA exists — to help invest in spaces that improve quality of life, promote wellness, and meet the needs of all citizens in our growing population,” said Jesse A. Smith, Executive Director of JEDA in Columbia.
