JEDA Issues $12.1 Million in Bond Funding for GREEN Spartanburg Charter School
Spartanburg, SC — Spartanburg County
The South Carolina Jobs-Economic Development Authority (JEDA) has issued $12,135,000 in Educational Facilities Revenue Bonds for GREEN Charter Schools to purchase the building that houses GREEN Spartanburg.
The K-8 school located at 8150 Warren H. Abernathy Highway is one of seven schools in the GREEN network of schools across the state.

GREEN (Global Renewable Energy Education Network) focuses on providing a STEM-based education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in a culture of care to nearly 3,000 students in grades K-12 at campuses in Spartanburg, Greenville, Irmo and North Charleston.
“We’re excited to be purchasing the property that has housed our Spartanburg school. Owning the facility rather than leasing it will help us provide a solid future for our network as we grow our capacity to serve bright young learners across the Palmetto State.”
Tom Cronin, Executive Director of GREEN Charter Schools

“Tax-exempt bond financing is a powerful but complex tool. It takes collaboration, experience and deep knowledge to structure these deals properly – especially in the education sector. We’re honored to be called upon to provide guidance,” said Kathy McKinney, Bond Counsel with Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., in Greenville.
“JEDA has a long history of helping schools at every level secure the resources they need to prepare students for an endlessly changing economy. Supporting institutions like GREEN Charter Schools is part of our broader mission to strengthen South Carolina’s workforce and future,” said Jesse A. Smith, Executive Director of JEDA in Columbia.
