JEDA Issues $31.5 Million in Bonds for Cogito Academy in Lancaster
Lancaster, SC — Lancaster County
The South Carolina Jobs-Economic Development Authority (JEDA) issued a $31,485,000 bond for Cogito Academy, a public charter school that plans to launch in the 2025-2026 school year in Lancaster.
The school will begin by serving pre-K through sixth grade and eventually serve students through eighth grade. The tax-exempt Educational Facilities Revenue Bonds will provide financing for the construction of the school’s permanent home to be built in Lancaster County.

“We’re thrilled to be so close to opening, and JEDA financing is a major reason we’re able to move forward so quickly.”
Dr. Wendy Regoeczi, Board Chair for Cogito Academy
Completion of the school’s permanent facility is expected by spring of 2026.
“Tax-exempt bonds like these are a great tool for charter schools to use to finance the facilities they need at the best terms available in the marketplace. We’re honored that Cogito Academy and JEDA have entrusted our firm with this process,” said Alan Linkous, Bond Counsel with Howell Linkous & Nettles in Charleston.
“Cogito Academy is locating in one of the fastest-growing communities in the Palmetto State, and JEDA is pleased to be able to assist them with their financing plans,” said Jesse A. Smith, Executive Director of JEDA in Columbia.
