JEDA Bond Issues Help Finance New GREEN Charter School in Irmo
Irmo, SC — Richland County
GREEN Midlands LLC is using $5,845,000 in bonds issued through the South Carolina Jobs-Economic Development Authority (JEDA) to finance the construction of a new charter school on Broad River Road in Irmo.
The GREEN Charter School of the Midlands will be a South Carolina K5-12 public charter school that combines a math and science focus with an emphasis on environmental sustainability, renewable energy, and technology. It will be a sister school to Greenville Renewable Energy Education (GREEN) Charter School that opened in 2013.
The Series 2016 financing for the GREEN Midlands school includes a $5,655,000 tax-exempt bond issue and $190,000 taxable bond issue. GREEN Charter School of the Midlands which began operating in August 2017, currently has a waiting list for every grade. The School will begin accepting applications for the 2018-2019 academic year in September 2017.
